The Iranian talks with the group of UN nations including Russia and US, is progressing slowly and Iran is said to not interested in sending Uranium for enrichment to France. Iran is said to be interested in sending Uranium to Russia instead and the group might agree on this issue also shortly.
That could bring some peace to the region, provided Iran does not make any provocative statement or action.

The Obama administration seems to be doing what Bush was doing. The Obama administration is all set to announce deployment of additional US troops in Afghanistan in order to avert a disastrous end to the eight year old war on terror.
Obama is set to have cleared the proposal for additional troops, and only the quantum is said to be under deliberation. The final announcement to come in the next few days, might eventually lead to crash in Obama’s popularity, which has anyway been waning in the last few months.
Obama might have to live with the Afghanistan problem for many more years to come, as the region is able to generate more illegal funds by cultivating banned drugs for the world.

The western world is really worried at the revelation by Iran of a new Uranium enrichment facility, which it wants to also throw open for UN inspection. The unexpected move comes on the heels of Iran declaring that it wants to develop Uranium enrichment facilities for peaceful purposes.
That is the route every other country in the world has taken to finally make nuclear weapons. Iran is under immense pressure from US and Europe for dropping the nuclear designs, and they are able to get the support of Russia recently on the Iranian issue. The Iranians have so far failed to get the economic benefits of high crude oil prices only because of the sanctions, and there could be a change of heart in Iranian power centers in the coming months hopefully.

The Chinese dominance on North Korea has been once again on a fantastic display in the last two weeks, when the Chinese Premier visited Pyongyang on a three days official visit. China has been the only close ally of North Korea and is said to be behind the nuclear missile capabilities development of North Korea.
Now China has urged the South Korea + US + Japan combine to push for negotiations with North Korea to resolve all outstanding issues. The timing of the statement just tells how much influence China has on North Korea. United States does not have a real choice on the issue than to go for negotiations with North Korea.

The Mexican drug cartels are smuggling arms very comfortably. There seems to be no strategy from US to stop it. Though most of the weapons that Mexican drug cartels use are smuggled from the United States, but the U.S. government lacks a cohesive strategy to combat the arms trafficking, according to a Government Accountability Office report to be released Thursday.
In Mexico last year, drug violence was blamed for the deaths of 78 soldiers and more than 6,000 others. This year, the drug violence has claimed more than 2,900 lives, according to the newspaper El Universal.
Much of the violence has affected the U.S.-Mexico border.
Over the last five years, about 87 percent of firearms seized and traced by Mexican authorities were purchased in the United States, a draft of the report says. Most of the weapons were acquired at gun shops and shows in border states, according to the report. Many of these are high-caliber and high-power weapons, including AK-47s and AR-15 semiautomatic rifles.
The two agencies tasked with curbing arms smuggling to Mexico, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Department of Homeland Security, “do not effectively coordinate their efforts, in part because the agencies lack clear roles and responsibilities,” according to the draft.

We are about to see the face of the new health care system. That is, if Obama has his way and can convince the doctors of the worth of his radical proposal. Health reform is the key promise that the US President made before his getting elected. Obama is due to outline his controversial healthcare reform plans to a meeting of doctors in a bid to secure their support. At the annual meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA), he is expected to set out his argument for a public insurance programme. But the doctors are typically divided over these proposals.

At a time when Bill Gates has criticised the developed nations of not fulfilling their aid promises to the developing nations, US has pldged to give a $73 million aid to Zimbabwe as announced by President Obama. This was after meeting with Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai at the White House. President Obama (right) praised Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai at the White House on Friday.
“I obviously have extraordinary admiration for the courage and tenacity that the prime minister has shown in navigating through some very difficult political times in Zimbabwe,” Obama said.
“There was a time when Zimbabwe was the breadbasket of Africa, and [it] continues to have enormous potential. It has gone through a very dark and difficult time politically.”
Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe “has not acted oftentimes in the best interest of the Zimbabwean people and has been resistant to the democratic changes that need to take place,” Obama said. “We now have a power-sharing agreement that shows promise, and we want to do everything we can to encourage the kinds of improvement not only on human rights and rule of law, freedom of the press and democracy that is so necessary, but also on the economic front.”

Royal Dutch Shell has agreed to pay $15.5m to settle a lawsuit which accused the oil firm of complicity in rights abuses in Nigeria. The case, due for trial in the US next week, was brought by relatives of a group of anti-Shell activists executed in 1995 by Nigeria’s military rulers. The families say Shell helped the government to punish the campaigners. But the company insists it did nothing wrong and said the payment was part of a “process of reconciliation”.
Shell official Malcolm Brinded said: “This gesture also acknowledges that, even though Shell had no part in the violence that took place, the plaintiffs and others have suffered.”
The nigerian dictators captured the activists and hanged them when they protested against shell saying that the company is damaging the environment.

Labour is facing an historic defeat in European elections which have seen the BNP gain its first seats in Brussels. Gordon Brown’s party looks set to finish behind UKIP, with less than 20% of the popular vote - increasing pressure on the PM to stand down. Labour’s biggest defeat was in Wales, where it lost 12% of its vote on 2004. BNP leader Nick Griffin won a seat in the North West and Andrew Brons won one in Yorkshire and Humberside, claiming a blow against EU “dictatorship”.
