Premier League Bucks Economic Downturn
Posted by admin | Under Business, Sports Wednesday Jun 3, 2009The Premier League saw its revenues go up by 26% in the 2007/08 season to nearly $3.15bn. The revenues of top-flight English sides were £1.93bn, up from £1.5bn a year earlier, Deloitte said.
The premier league seems to be the only one of its kind bucking the economic trend and posting both top line and bottom line growth figures and showing a very healthy business model. It is to be noted that even the indian premier league, which is actually a cricket version of the premier league in UK, is also showing good growths and monies.
Despite the downturn, 11 of the 20 top league clubs made an operating profit in 2007/08, from eight a year before. This is inspite of the increases in salaries.
