Starbucks Corp., the world’s largest coffee-shop operator, said that their second-quarter profit fell 77 percent. It announced it would open fewer stores than planned this year. the key reason : consumer spending has declined.
Starbucks Net income dropped to $25 million, or 3 cents a share, in the three months ended March 29, the Seattle-based company said today in a statement. Starbucks will add 20 locations this year, down from the 95 it predicted in January, as it seeks to cut $500 million in costs through September.
Chief Executive Officer Howard Schultz said that Starbucks is fighting the perception that Starbucks’s coffees are a luxury as consumers cut store visits amid the longest recession since the postwar era. The coffee seller is facing competition from McDonald’s Corp. and Dunkin’ Donuts Inc., both of which sell cheaper versions of coffee.

What is entertainment? It is difficult to define it. Is television entertainment? Is opera entertainment? Is sports entertainment? Is news entertainment?
Yes. It is very difficult to define it. But, one thing is clear. We all want entertainment and that is what we want everything to be.
The TV channels have understood this. More so the news channels which, by definition, cannot provide entertainment that the other channels provide. So, they give us really entertaining news. They brazenly report whatever scoop they can uncover. They publicise even small scandals. They give us the gory gory details of war and everything else. Simply because, somewhere down the line, all of this becomes entertainment.
Entertainment is the name of the game!

As kids, we don’t get any business education. Except for those kids who pick up the business sense when they work for their summer jobs or something like that. A clear, program with constructive approach towards teaching business to kids and children does not exist. Is it not important? Should we not teach our young ones the fundamentals of business? Should we not teach them how to make money and how to save it and how to ensure that they are never out of it? Should we not teach them the fundamentals of starting a business, evaluating risks and running one?
I think it is needed. The curriculum also should have something about basics of how businesses are run.

“Lead, Kindly Light” goes the poem by a famous poet. We all need light. As soon as the darkness falls, without lights, we will go back to 200 years back type of situation.
The kind of lights we use will also matter. The kind of lights used at home should be contemporary. It should ight up the hall, the room or a particular object selectively.
All of us have chandeliers at home. It is a pain to have them though they look beautiful and whoever comes home admires them. Simply because, it is such a problem getting them cleaned. Now, that headache is gone. One can use aladdin light lifts to lower the chandeliers and clean them. NO more shaking ladders. No more accidents. No more expensive cleaning services.
One also needs outdoor lighting. You might want to light up your garden. You might want to light up the garden path or the particular portion of the garden. You can use the kichler landscape lighting for the same.
One can also have lights fixed on the fans. Imagine this! You are watching a football match, all alone at home and all you need is simply a fan and a book to read during those commercial breaks and if there is a fan with a light fixed on it, it would be perfect. You can even have Outdoor Fans with Lights.
Technology has made it possible to light up your house in many different ways!

Before anwering the question, “how to create the best strategy”, one needs to answer the simpler question: “what is strategy”.
Strategy is nothing but the choices that we make about the long term. The options we choose, knowing well that there is nothing inherently right or wrong about the options which are available before us. Knowing fully well that we may not have all the information that we would like to have to make those choices.
And, strategy is all about making trade offs. If choose option A, we give something in favour of something else. If we choose option B, we give up something else, in favour of something.
So, now that we know what is strategy, how do we create the best strategy?
The funny thing is, there is nothing called as the ‘best’ strategy. You will have to choose the better of the options available presented to you as you see them. It may or may not be the best one in the long run!

Do you know your religion well? You may be a christian. May be a Muslim. May be a Jew. May even be a Hindu settled over there. But, how well do you know your religion? Do you know your scriptures? Do you know what all it teaches? Do you know what it has to offer to your business?
It is very difficult to have an understanding of one’s religion these days. It has become much more fashionable to say that one is modern and be completely ignorant of one’s religion and in fact any religion in this world.
It has also become equally fashionable to ignore the scriptures and the religious books and their teachings along with the people who take pains to teach them and teach us the ceremonies involved and their meanings.
Very few truly religious people have received recognition while they are still alive and doing their duty towards God. Yitzhak Miller is such as person. He is a Rabbi and absolutely passionate about Judaism.
For a number of years, Rabbi Yitzhak Miller (who prefers Rabbi Yitzi) has served as a Rabbi and Director of Education to several congregations (Riverside, Gilroy, Los Gatos, Yuba City and Lancaster, Calif.). He was an international businessman before he decided to became a Rabbi. He has transcended the materialistic life and has reached out for the sacred, to serve God. He is right now creating spiritual and emotional bonds among the Jewish people and the people of the world. He is a person with warm spirit and deep passion, and commitment to Jewish and personal growth.
Rabbi Yitzi is available by appointment for any important services of Judaism. Whether it is Jewish & non-denominational weddings or Bris & baby naming or whether it is the occasion of Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation or any other Jewish ceremony, you can fix an appointment with him and he is available for you.

The Supreme Court upheld on Tuesday a U.S. government crackdown on profanity on television. This is a policy that is going to ask the broadcasters to pay fines for airing a single expletive blurted out on a live show.
In its first ruling on broadcast indecency standards in more than 30 years, the high court has signaled a victory to the Federal Communications Commission. Federal communications commission has adopted the crackdown against the one-time use of profanity on live television when children are likely to be watching.
The case has come up from an FCC ruling in 2006. It had found that the News Corp’s NWSa.N Fox television network violated decency rules when singer Cher blurted out an expletive during the 2002 Billboard Music Awards broadcast and actress Nicole Richie used two expletives during the 2003 awards.
However, no fines were imposed then.
Two issues are here: One, Are we suddenly discovering that profanity is bad? Can we really shut it out of our collective consiousness? Can the broadcaster really control the profanity in a live show? Two, what about wardrobe malfunctioning?
